Advent Season
We are now in the second week of Advent. Our focus in week 2 is peace. Jesus is called ‘Prince of Peace’. In this special Advent time, let us reflect on how important peace is in our world.
PJ Day - Thursday
The children are encouraged to wear PJs on Thursday, December 11. This is the day that the Grade 1 students (who purchased a ticket) will visit the Grade 6 Whoville Cafe.
St. Cecilia Advent Project - Give the Gift of Hope
As I mentioned in the note I sent home on Thursday, we are collecting gift cards for families in need. Our class is supporting a family of 3 people: a 5 year old and both parents. If you are able to help, please send in a gift card. Another option is for you to donate on School Cash Online. This project will run until December 18 (I originally thought it was the 15th). Thanks for your support.
Skating at Minto in January & February
The permission forms will come home soon. Please let me know if you can help with tying skates or being an on-ice helper when you return the forms. Thank you in advance. I included the dates below again.

Chromebooks
The children are becoming more comfortable using the Chromebooks. Thank you for sending in headphones for your child. The children are excited to get started on many of the apps. So far the children have learned how to play Saami and Opal on Numbershapes.com and they also tried Zorbits. Zorbits is an app on the Student Portal. If you would like, you can access this app at home through the student portal. It is not expected. The children will have a chance to work on these apps at school.
Language
Please continue to practice reading the passages/books with your child. I will send home a new set whenever your family is ready. I know some nights are busier than others. Do what works for your family.
Math
We continue to work on number patterns. We will also be moving into Data Management. The students will learn to ask other students questions to gather some information. Then they will represent it on a simple prepared graph. The students will learn to use some more math vocabulary and write sentences with these words.

Religion
We will learn more about Advent and the Nativity Story in the next few weeks. We will sing songs and pray each week of Advent.
