Happy Family Day!
Hope you had a chance to enjoy some time with loved ones!
Thank you for helping to make Valentine's Day so memorable for the little ones. It was special to watch them all pass out their Valentines and say thank you to each other :) It was super cute. I hope you took some time to look through the cards with your little ones.
Happy Lunar New Year for all of you who are celebrating!
This is such a special time of the year for you to be with family and friends. Enjoy!
This Wednesday, February 17 is Ash Wednesday. We will be starting the season of Lent. This is when we prepare our hearts for Jesus. Some people chose to “give up” something that is hard to go without or sometimes others chose to make do more like Jesus. It could be like praying more during Lent, or being more positive or even just trying to complain less. The children are learning the importance of caring for others and our world. The children will be receiving ashes on their foreheads on Wednesday after the school liturgy in the gym. They will also come home with a short prayer on Wednesday with a classmate’s name. Your child will pray for this friend during Lent. It will be a “secret” until after Easter when the children can reveal who he/she was praying for during the Lenten Season. A note will come home with the cross and prayer this week.
Kindness Week
We are starting kindness week! We will read stories and talk about the importance of being kind and being a good friend to all. On Tuesday, we will kick off the week by wearing Red and White for our school colours.
Tuesday - Wear your St. Cecilia colours!
Wednesday - Wear your rainbow colours to speak out against bullying!
Thursday - Sprinkle kindness like confetti! We will write kind messages to others
Friday - Crazy sock day!
We will also participate in Pink Shirt Day Wednesday, Feb 25 during the following week.
Book Exchange
Please try your best to help to remind your child to pack his/her books today.
Math
We will be finishing up with 3D geometry. We have started to dive into measurement. Children will learn to measure indirectly in grade 1.
Language
We will continue to work on learning the sounds and digraphs. The children are learning to use these sounds to spell words. We also continue to learn how to comprehend the stories we are reading. The students are learning how to retell the main events that have happened in the stories.
Science
We have been learning about Structures. The students were excited to build their Love Goblins! We will continue to learn how to make different structures stable and strong.
As always, please reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns. Looking forward to another week of fun and learning with the children!
Sincerely,
Giovanna Smith
